I was referred to Dr. Philip Novack around three years ago by my mother, with concern about my receding gums (at the time my mother had just over a year earlier gone through a dental implant, as well as gum graft augmentation surgery). My mother was very pleased with her results and so I made an appointment. I found Dr. Novack to be very personable, professional, and thorough. He explained the status of my periodontal health, what the major concerns were, and how to improve, step by step. He answered all my questions and made himself available to answer any further questions that came up. Not only did my gums require deep cleaning, but gum graft surgery and removal of my wisdom teeth. I had previously experienced severe tooth sensitivity/pain even during regular teeth cleaning so I was very apprehensive to proceed. Dr Novack explained the procedures to be performed and how he would provide pain management. He also provided after hours care contact information. I started with deep teeth cleaning and the pain management during the procedure made it tolerable. I greatly appreciate his distractions throughout the deep teeth cleaning process, especially during injections of anesthetic into the areas being worked on. I then felt comfortable to proceed with the surgeries mentioned above. Although it was somewhat of an ordeal, I was appropriately sedated and sufficiently pain-managed. I was given all the details of the surgeries prior to proceeding, outcome, side effects and then given post-operative instructions and close follow-up, with 24/7 emergency contact available. I had basically eroded my gums by vigorous and incorrect brushing, which was from early childhood. Dr. Philip Novack recommended and supervised my change of toothbrushing technique along with the use of a new electric toothbrush with a soft-bristle toothbrush head. Before I first met Dr. Novack, I had sworn off regular dental cleanings as they were just too painful. He addressed the pain and reassured me that with appropriate pain management, the pain would be dull and short-lived. This made all the difference in the world to me. Dental cleanings became tolerable once again and I was no longer actively avoiding them. Thank you Dr. Novack for your understanding and excellent comprehensive care!
