Prevention of Gum Recession
A significant percentage of the population is born with very thin gums. Orthodontic movement represents a stress on the teeth. Individuals with thin gums are at increased risk of gum recession as a result of orthodontic treatment. Your orthodontist may recommend a gum graft procedure to create a solid band of gum tissue that will help you avoid the development of gum recession. It is always best to prevent problems from occurring than reacting to a serious problem once it has developed.
Please refer to our Free Gingival Graft section that outlines the procedure in detail.
